I have owned more radio's than I have had hot dinners but I am now happy with my current shack.  It may not be the best, but on the same note I am not a lottery winner. I believe my radio's to be the best for my purposes and for my reasons.  My current station consists of a Kenwood TS-950SDX for HF and a Ten Tec Orion with HA1YA transverter for 2m. I also have an Icom IC-7100 that I could use for HF 6m 4m 2m 70cm and D-Star mobile. Here are some pictures and descriptions of my radio's.

My baby, the Kenwood TS-950SDX

This radio supersedes my Icom IC-775DSP and I must say it is unfair to compare the two radios. The Icom was a slightly better receiver than the Kenwood, but there is no comparison regarding transmit and receive audio quality.  There is quite simply no other radio in existence to this day that can compare to the quality and sound of a Kenwood TS-950SDX. It is truly one phenomenal piece of kit!

My TenTec Orion spends most of its time on either 2m SSB or FM simplex utilising a ME2HT-Pro-II transverter from HA1YA. Maybe a little bit of a waste of one of the best receivers I have ever used but it makes sense to have the best ears for 2m SSB.

I also have a Linear Amp UK Discovery GS-31b amplifier for 2m SSB and hopefully one day a 2m EME contact. Capable of over 1KW, the transverter is capable of a clean 40W out so in theory it should be a clean 400W output with plenty in reserve!.

My Icom IC-7100, used for anything mobile other than D-Star as the recovered audio is hopelessly distorted and garbled and robotic.

I almost feel like I have been "done" by icom as you cant call D-Star a mode, its an abismal failure and i've paid out lots of my hard earned £££ for this crap. Talk about being "had off"

The wide receiver coverage can be useful when the bands are quiet.  As can the welcome addition of 4m.
